Psychotherapy for Latinas
Most Latinx clients enter therapy when they are struggling with anxiety or depression that affects their personal relationships, school or careers. Often difficulties are related to trying to navigate the challenges of developing an identity rooted in contradicting cultural and social values. Entering into therapy can help address and sort out the unique issues that impact Latinas.
As a bilingual, bicultural Latina, I have a unique understanding of the Latina experience. Having the familiarity of the common values and issues of clients can be crucial in providing effective psychotherapy. I strive to help my clients find ways to communicate their needs that do not conflict with deeply held values such as family-centeredness. In addition, being able to communicate emotions in a native language, especially emotions centered in early childhood, can enrich the therapeutic process. I know that although our stories may not be the same, there is something different about being able to work with a person who is similar to you.
